Skip Gorman ~ Backup Techniques
A multi-instrumentalist and brilliant fiddler in various Celtic traditions, Skip will share some ideas about how instruments, even fiddles, in an ensemble, can contribute to backing up the tunes.
FEBRUARY GATHERING
On the 9th of February 2025, Paul & Sally Wells will present several traditional tunes that have had long, complicated lives, selected from his tunebook, 'The Maine Musical Compendium'.
Paul and Sally host the "North by Northeast" radio show.
March Gathering
Every other year our March gathering is dedicated to hearing and playing tunes written by our members. This is the year, so all you composers out there, time to get to work!
Portsmouth Library Concert
Come join us for a free concert as we play new and old Scottish favorites at the Portsmouth, NH, Public Library.
December Gathering
For our December gathering we will play through the concert sets as we begin to prepare for a pair of spring concerts.
October Gathering
Our founding music director, Barbara McOwen, will lead our October workshop.
September Gathering
In addition to playing through our monthly tunes we’ll begin an in-depth exploration of the concert sets presented by your music committee.
June Gathering
Our June gathering will be a recap of the music from the 2023/24 program year. After playing through the June tunes presented by our Tune Master, we’ll play through all the tunes we learned throughout the year, discussing which ones we’d like to include in our concerts for the coming year.
Dominque Dodge Concert
Dominique has a passion for melody-driven dance music and responsive, rhythmic accompaniment, as well as for Gaelic songs, airs, and 18th century harp tunes.
May Gathering
Harpist Dominique Dodge will lead our May workshop, offering a set of Scottish tunes, drawing on Gaelic and West Highland repertoire from the 18th and 19th centuries. Note that this gathering is a departure from our usual 2nd Sunday to avoid meeting on Mother’s Day.
Portsmouth Library Concert
Come join us for a free concert as we play new and old Scottish favorites at the Portsmouth, NH, Public Library.
March Gathering
Our March gathering will be a rehearsal of all our concert tunes. You don’t have to play in one of our spring concerts to enjoy this event. We welcome newcomers to all our gatherings. Note that clocks “spring ahead” that weekend so don’t forget to change your clock or you’ll be an hour late!
February Gathering
Accordionist Jeremiah McLane will teach our February workshop. Fluent in many different genres of music, most of his work now - both composing and playing - is with traditional Celtic and French music.
December Gathering
Gordon Peery will lead our gathering as we play through some of our tunes that we’ll be playing in concerts later in the season.
Karen Steven & Alastair MacDonald Return for our November Gathering
This past February Karen Steven and Alastair MacDonald paid a surprise visit to the NH Scottish Music Club. They were such a big hit that we immediately booked them for a return visit.
Neil Pearlman Joins Us in October
Neil Pearlman will be leading a workshop for our October gathering, followed by a tea and coffee break and jam session.
September Gathering
Your music committee was hard at work this summer putting together concert sets for our new program year. Visit the music page to print them out and bring them to the September gathering when Gordon Peery will lead us through our first reading of them.
June Gathering
Join us for our final gathering of the 2022/23 program year as we play through our new June tunes and revisit all the tunes we added to our repertoire since last September.

Satellite Jam Session - Nelson
Come join us as we host a Scottish jam session in New Hampshire’s Monadnock region. Acoustic musicians of all abilities - beginner to professional - are welcome.
Workshop with Ed Pearlman
Ed Pearlman will be returning to the NH Scottish Music Club to lead our May workshop, when he will introduce a March, Strathspey, and Jig set.
NHSMC returns to the Portsmouth Library.

Monthly Gathering ~ March
Member Tune Month!
We’ll play an orginal tune from Deb DellOrfano and some tunes from last month’s surprise guest, Karen Stevens. After tea (and coffee) we’ll continue digging into our concert sets. Daylight Savings Time begins at midnight, so don’t forget to spring ahead!

Remembering George Randall
Longtime member George Randall passed away on October 31, 2022. A celebration of his life will be held at The Barn on the Pemi, 341 Daniel Webster Highway, Plymouth, NH.
SMC November Gathering Features Mari Black
Mari Black will be leading us in learning a set of two strathspeys and a reel in our November workshop. We'll work on stylizing and orchestrating each tune so the whole set can sound really great with the whole group.
