June Gathering Summary
Our June session opened with an annual meeting. This included announcing the results of the board elections (conducted by email earlier):
Anne Baier, President (2 years)
Gordon Peery, Vice President (2 years)
Art Hull (2 years)
Many thanks to retiring vice president Debby Dell Orfano, who continues her involvement as head of the scholarship committee.
Gordon advised that there is a good possibility of Bass Hall not being a concert option for next year. However, there is an invitation to play a Burns Night concert on January 25 at the Park Theatre in Jaffrey. This is a very new facility that seats over three hundred. They have an impressive calendar featuring many prominent musicians, and it would be a fabulous opportunity for our organization to get some great exposure. There was strong support for the idea of doing this - details have yet to be finalized, but those interested in playing should at least pencil in the date on your calendar. This led to some discussion about our rehearsal, but it was pointed out that in earlier times our organization has been willing and able to prepare for concerts at different times of year.
Most of the session (pre tea-break) was spent playing through tunes that have been presented to us at workshops over the past year (see list below). The music committee is interested in feedback on which tunes to include in next year’s concert sets. There was some expression of enthusiasm for specific tunes, but everyone is encouraged to provide further input on tunes that you favor (or don’t), by writing to NHScottishMusic@gmail.com.
The music committee would also like your thoughts on tunes that we played this year. A survey sent out with the May issue of Granite Skies did not get much response, but we hope you’ll take just a couple of minutes now to respond. Take the survey.
